Custom-made Ford Shelby GT Cake for Mr. Shelby’s 85th

Freed’s honors an automotive legend with a custom-made cake LAS VEGAS, Nevada, January 14, 2008 – A cake impressive in scale (feeding between 350 and 400 people) was presented to Carroll Shelby in celebration of his 85th birthday at the Las Vegas Speedway yesterday. Freed’s Bakery of Las Vegas was proud to design the cake for Mr. Shelby, with a completely edible 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR as its centerpiece. The design began as a 16" round cake atop an 18" cake. Blanketed in white fondant, and surrounded by black ribbon (reminiscent of tire treads), with a reel of edible images from Mr. Shelby’s illustrious career, these layers were only the beginning of this work of art. Atop this platform, the cake designers at Freed’s built a wonderful representation of the brand new 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR. A smaller round cake with the edible image of a chrome rim was provided, and all the layers had different flavors and fillings in order to please such a large crowd. Freed’s Bakery has served the Las Vegas area for the past 49 years, and has been featured on such shows as The Food Network’s “Roker on the Road,” “$40 a Day with Rachael Ray,” “Sugar Rush,” and “After Midnight.” Freed’s has also been featured on Lifetime’s “Top This Party,” Hawaiian Airlines’ “The Best of Las Vegas,” and “Las Vegas Live.” Freed’s has been featured in Bon Appétit, Martha Stewart Weddings, People’s Amazing Real Life Weddings, and Conde Nast Traveler. Freed’s has been voted Best of Las Vegas by the Las Vegas Review Journal’s Reader’s Choice for the last 26 years, and has been recognized by AOL City’s Best and The Knot’s Best of Weddings 2007.
